BIOGRAPHY:

Melvin Alick

Whenever Melvin Alick takes his seat behind the drums on any stage the audience is in store for a treat! Melvin has the ability to make his drums “talk” and drum-talk is the essence of Melvin’s being.

Melvin’s deep love of music was evident from his toddler days.  He could always be heard beating pots, pans, furniture or anything that could make a sound once struck.  This musical inclination grew and developed until at the age of nine, he touched his first drum kit and learnt his set of grooves…..in fifteen minutes!  Those fifteen minutes changed his life forever and started Melvin’s journey on the road to musical excellence.

As Melvin matured, he continued to hone his skills by listening and watching other drummers.  As his prowess on the skins became known, Melvin soon became one of most requested drummers in Barbados.

Melvin’s musical exploits have garnered him the opportunity to perform at all of Barbados’ major music festivals including Congaline, the Barbados Jazz Festival, the Crop Over Festival, Gospel Fest and the Pan Festival.   His great sense of rhythm and timing has afforded him the opportunity to work with an eclectic group of the top Barbadian musicians, namely Arturo Tappin, Hal Linton, David “Ziggy” Walcott, Marissa Lindsay, Elan Trotman, Paula Hinds, AJA, and bands such as Promise and Instruments of Praise.

On the international scene, Melvin has had the privilege of working with artistes such as Chevelle Franklyn, Ralph Mc Donald, Junior Tucker.  In recent times, Melvin has toured extensively with Caribbean Soca music sensation and Atlantic recording star, Rupee.  He has performed at several international festivals including Reggae on the River, The Ottawa Blues Fest, the Bob Marley Music Festival, the St. Lucia Jazz Festival, the Barbados on the Water Festival and the Beaches International Jazz Festival.

Melvin is currently the musical director for David “Ziggy” Walcott’s backing band “Locked Down”.

At the young age of 26, Melvin has demonstrated a real love and passion for music and especially the drums.  He certainly intends to continue developing his musical skills and is intent on becoming one of the best musicians the region has ever produced and the world has seen.  Watch for him!
